Immature African Fish Eagle, Lake Malawi

To continue the theme of posting raptor pics from Malawi, here are a few shots of immature African Fish Eagles that were hanging around near Nanchengwa Lodge on the shores of Lake Malawi.  I am a little unsure of the age of these birds but assume that the wedge of three adult type inner primaries on the right hand wing of the shot below indicates that that individual is probably somewhere between 12 and 18 months old.

Excellent shots. Why is the light better everywhere and the birds more confiding?
BTW you can have my Helm Birds of East Africa if you want as I'll never need it. It even has your Vincent's Bunting in it.

Very generous, Stuart, in more ways than one. I'd be happy to borrow the book for a wee while but think it is the sort of thing that you never know when you'll need it! As for confiding, many of the birds were very skittish - presumably there are lots of folk who would like to eat them - I just got lucky with a couple of biggies...
